Edson Steering Pedestal I removed the steering pedestal from the boat and brought it home along with all of the cables and pulleys. Cleanup and painting was straight forward. I started by cleaning all of the brass pulleys using a bench grinder with a 6" wire brush attached. I disassembled the pedestal and stripped all of the paint off of the aluminum base using Jasco paint stripper (works great). I then washed and dried the base and applied Alumiprep 33 acid wash, rinsed it, dried and than brushed on Alodine 1201, rinsed and dried. The pedestal was now ready for priming. I plan on using Awlgrip paint on the boat but I decided to paint the pedestal with Interlux paint. I first applied 3 coats of Interlux Pre-Kote thinned with 216 and wet sanded with 320 grit between coats. I then painted it with Interlux Brightside Polyurethane. I thinned the paint out quiet a bit, brushed it on using a clean china brush and tipped it off with a foam brush. Four coats later it looks great!
